Frank family to arrive. The Van Daans and the Frank family will both be going into hiding. Mr. Kraler and Miep then arrive moments later. They are the people who are hiding them from the green police. They discuss house regulations which they are not to move when the workers come into the building until they all leave. Anne then meets Peter who is annoyed by Anne’s behavior. Since Peter is the only boy she will see in years, she thought she would get to know him.

He wrestles her to the ground until he takes his shoes from her. Mrs. Van Daan is bugging Peter about liking Anne, and he starts to blush. Mr. and Mrs.Van Daan are always argueing with each other. Anne’s character makes a bad impression on the Van Daans and they get mad at her. Mrs. Frank then tries to tell Anne how to behave but she doesn’t want to obey and tells her to be more like her sister, Margot. Mr.Kraler then arrives and tells Mr.Frank if he can accept one more person to hide with them. His name is Dussel. Dussel lets the two families know about the war. Then they discuss over the little food that they have. Anne gets to know Dussel and become friendly since they are both sharing a room. Dussel then criticizes Anne about everything she does.

Mrs.Frank then gets hurt because Anne rejects her help. Anne would rather be with Mr.Frank. Anne lets Mr.Frank know that he is the only one she loves. He tells her that he should also love her mother and sister. She tries to but they don’t understand her. She explains that she has a nice side but the mean side keeps coming out. She uses the mean side because she is afraid that people will laugh at her. Mr.Frank believes that the war will soon be over and asks the question: “What was the first thing we wanted to do when we got out of here”.
